Governor Ademola Adeleke has commissioned the newly completed four-span Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo, describing it as a landmark project that reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and improving the lives of residents.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Adeleke said the project marked the beginning of the inauguration of several mega projects executed by his administration across the state.
The governor thanked residents of Osogbo for their patience during the construction period and commended the engineers, contractors and workers for delivering the project on schedule.
“This project is not isolated. Today marks the commencement of the unveiling of several mega projects initiated by our government. This is part of our promise to the people of Osun to invest in infrastructure that touches everybody’s lives, including roads, bridges and education,” he said.
Adeleke said the quality of the flyover demonstrated the capability of indigenous professionals, stressing that the project was executed using local expertise and resources.
“The high quality of the flyover confirms the credibility of our local content model. We are proving to the whole world that our local engineers can perform to world-class standards,” the governor said.
He disclosed that his administration had completed more than 27 kilometres of intercity roads within Osogbo and over 300 kilometres of roads across the state, adding that more than 10 mega infrastructure projects were at different stages of completion.
The governor urged the Ministry of Works, community leaders and residents to safeguard the facility, warning against street trading, vandalism and theft of installed infrastructure.
“There should be no street trading on the bridge or under the underpass. There should be no vandalisation or stealing of lights. This is your flyover. Use it well,” he added.
Also, a representative of the Osun State Ministry of Works said the bridge was constructed in line with approved engineering standards with the support of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
According to the official, the flyover has a total length of 617 metres, including retaining walls, and features four spans, dual carriageways, solar-powered streetlights, traffic signals, reflective road markers and safety barriers to enhance road safety.
He added that all materials used for the project were sourced locally, while the engineers, artisans and labourers engaged in the construction were all based in Osun State.
“No expatriates were involved in the construction of this project from beginning to completion. This bridge is fit for use by all categories of vehicles, with no restrictions,” the official said.
The representative also appreciated Governor Adeleke for giving indigenous engineers the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in delivering major infrastructure projects.
Declaring the bridge open for public use, another speaker at the event described the project as a symbol of progress and development for Osun State.
He said the Lameco Roundabout, once known for heavy traffic congestion, had now been transformed into a modern transport corridor that would ease movement and boost economic activities.
“As we open this bridge today, may it stand for progress, prosperity and peace. On behalf of the people of Osun State, we thank Governor Adeleke for his vision, courage and commitment to infrastructure development,” he said.
