Spanish football has been thrown into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died at the age of 30 after suffering a serious injury during a league match against FC Andorra.
De Miguel collapsed following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during the closing stages of Monday’s Spanish second-division encounter.
He received emergency medical attention on the pitch before being rushed to hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. However, his condition deteriorated, and the club confirmed his death on Tuesday morning.
The match, which was tied at 2-2, was abandoned in stoppage time, while Owono received a straight red card following the incident.
Several football clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Espanyol and FC Andorra, have expressed condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates and the Tenerife community.
The Spanish Footballers’ Association also paid tribute to the striker, describing his death as a huge loss to the football community.
De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 and helped the club secure promotion to Spain’s second division.
