Ajax are closing in on the signing of Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, with the Nigerian expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of a season-long loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Dutch giants have reached an agreement with Wolves for the temporary transfer, which includes a £1 million loan fee. Ajax will also pay the striker’s full wages, while the deal contains an option to make the move permanent for £17 million. Additional payments could be activated if the Eredivisie club secures qualification for European competition.

Arokodare arrives in Amsterdam with a growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most prolific forwards. Renowned for his work rate, aerial dominance, physical presence and clinical finishing, the 25-year-old has steadily built an impressive goal scoring record across Belgium, France and England, earning praise for his ability to lead the line and deliver in crucial moments.

His outstanding performances attracted interest from Serie A sides Fiorentina and Genoa, as well as Turkish club Trabzonspor. However, Ajax moved quickly to make the Nigerian their priority attacking target as they seek to strengthen their frontline ahead of the new campaign.

Although opportunities were limited during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arokodare made several appearances for the Premier League side and remained highly rated for his commitment and professionalism. His spell in England further enhanced his experience at the highest level, despite fierce competition for places.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and Belgian outlet HLN have all reported that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs. A source close to the Super Eagles striker also confirmed that the transfer is expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours.

If the move is completed, Arokodare will follow in the footsteps of several Nigerian greats who have represented Ajax, including Finidi George, Nwankwo Kanu, Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida, Pius Ikedia and Calvin Bassey.

The move also offers the powerful striker an opportunity to revive his career with one of Europe’s most successful clubs, where his relentless pressing, intelligent movement and proven eye for goal are expected to add firepower to Ajax’s attack.

Arokodare is set to work under newly appointed head coach Míchel, who recently took charge of the Dutch club after leaving Spanish side Girona. Ajax will be hoping the Nigerian’s goals and tireless performances can help the club challenge for domestic honours and secure a return to the top level of European football.
