Media personality Nedu Wazobia has stirred reactions on social media after claiming that the “Sugar Mummy industry” is one of the biggest industries in Nigeria, jokingly describing Abuja as its headquarters.
Nedu made the remark during a conversation with content creator Ludahydrate in a video that has since circulated online.
Speaking humorously, the broadcaster said he believes the Federal Capital Territory has become the hub of relationships involving older wealthy women and younger men.
“The Sugar Mummy industry is one of the biggest industries in Nigeria. The headquarters, as far as I am concerned, is here in Abuja,” Nedu said.
Reacting to the comment, Ludahydrate offered his own explanation for why he believes such relationships are common in Abuja.
According to him, the city’s large population of politicians and political appointees, particularly from Northern Nigeria, has contributed to the trend.
He alleged that some wealthy politicians who have multiple wives often provide generous divorce settlements, leaving some former spouses financially independent.
“Why there are many in Abuja is because Northern men are here and they have more wives,” he said.
“You will see one minister that has about nine wives. He may divorce three of them and give one an estate and another a supermarket as settlement.
“Imagine a woman who owns a supermarket and maybe another water company. She has children but doesn’t have any man in her life. That kind of woman might not want to get married again.
“She will prefer to just have a sugar boy.”
The conversation, delivered in a light-hearted manner, has generated widespread reactions on social media, with users expressing mixed opinions over the claims and the stereotypes associated with relationships involving older women and younger men.
