President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has taken a swipe at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he was surprised the party was still active and suggesting it should be allowed to fade away.
Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of a road project in the Gaduwa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Reacting to recent political developments involving the PDP, the Senate President joked that he was unaware the party was still functioning and suggested there was no need to continue discussions about its internal affairs.
Addressing FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Akpabio remarked that the party should be allowed to “die” if it had already lost its relevance, while urging Wike not to create confusion around its continued existence.
He added that he had no interest in commenting on matters concerning the PDP’s internal leadership or working committee.
Akpabio also used the occasion to commend Wike’s performance in office, praising ongoing infrastructure projects and development efforts across Abuja.
According to him, the pace of work being witnessed in the FCT has distinguished the current administration from previous ones.
The Senate President further applauded both Wike and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying their leadership and project delivery had attracted public attention and positive reactions.
His comments come amid continued political realignments and growing conversations around the strength and future of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
