Former Osun State Governor and current ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, says he governed for eight years without owning a personal house.
In a video that surfaced online on Thursday, Aregbesola told supporters he is likely the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve two full terms without having his own home.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.
According to him, he lived in a friend’s house throughout his tenure in Osun.
“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own,” he added.
Aregbesola served as Osun State governor from 2010 to 2018. He was later appointed Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
During his time as governor, he said his administration focused on tackling poverty, unemployment and hunger, while also investing in education, healthcare, peace and community development.
The video has since sparked reactions online, with many debating his claim and legacy in Osun.
