The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over the recently commissioned Iwo township road project, alleging that the contract was poorly executed and compromised from the outset.
In a statement signed by the Head of its Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the council claimed that the road project was awarded to Showie-Tee Global Services Ltd, which it described as an interior decoration company rather than a certified civil engineering firm.
According to the opposition party, the alleged choice of contractor contributed to what it described as the rapid deterioration of the road even before its official commissioning.
The council further alleged that sections of the road had begun to fail and were hurriedly patched before Governor Adeleke inaugurated the project, describing the development as evidence of poor workmanship.
It characterised the project as a “substandard, cosmetic plastering” that falls short of the infrastructure expected by residents of Iwo, accusing the state government of prioritising public relations over quality construction.
“It is a shame that a road meant to last decades was already giving way and being patched before the governor arrived for its commissioning. The people of Iwo deserve durable infrastructure, not cosmetic repairs that could fail after the next heavy rainfall,” the statement read.
The APC maintained that Iwo, as one of Osun State’s major commercial centres, deserves quality infrastructure capable of supporting economic activities and improving transportation.
The campaign council contrasted the project with the Osogbo-Iwo road reconstruction, which it said was initiated under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in collaboration with the Oyo State Government as part of the broader 91-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road project.
According to the council, the Osun section of the project covered 55.4 kilometres from Osogbo to the Osun/Oyo boundary and was designed to improve regional connectivity, accommodate heavy traffic and boost commerce.
The APC alleged that the Adeleke administration discontinued the project for political reasons before it was later taken over by the Federal Government through the efforts of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
It added that the administration of President Bola Tinubu subsequently approved the reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre road using concrete pavement, with a directive that the project be completed within two years.
The council argued that the state government should have focused on completing the larger road project instead of commissioning what it described as a 3.6-kilometre township road stretching from Odo-Ori Market to Oja-Oba in Iwo.
The APC Campaign Council urged the Adeleke administration to prioritise quality infrastructure delivery, insisting that governance should be driven by long-term development rather than ceremonial project commissioning.
