President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to accelerating development across the country, declaring that it will not relent in transforming the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of Nigeria.
The President made the pledge on Thursday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, stretching from Kado Fish Market to Deidei Junction in Abuja, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
Represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu called on Nigerians to partner with his government in building a more prosperous nation where every community feels the impact of development.
According to him, the newly rehabilitated road is more than just a transport corridor, describing it as a vital economic route that connects communities including Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, Karmo and Deidei to the Outer Northern Expressway.
He said the project would ease traffic, reduce transportation costs, improve the movement of goods and services, and boost commercial activities within the area.
“This road is more than a carriageway; it is an economic artery. We have reduced travel time and transport costs. Goods will move faster, markets will thrive, workers will get to their destinations with less stress, and prosperity will increase for the people in these communities,” the President said.
Tinubu also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , for the ongoing “Light Up Abuja” initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of the dividends of democracy.
He noted that the installation of streetlights along the corridor would improve security, encourage nightlife and extend business activities beyond daylight hours.
The President urged residents and traditional rulers in the benefiting communities to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting public facilities from vandalism and ensuring drainage channels remain free of refuse.
He stressed that community participation is essential to preserving public infrastructure, adding that roads maintained by residents tend to serve generations, while neglected facilities deteriorate quickly.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, Tinubu said projects would continue across the FCT, including the area councils, with the goal of promoting inclusion, improving security and driving economic growth.
“We are not slowing down. Every district deserves access to quality infrastructure, and every Nigerian deserves to feel the impact of this administration wherever they live.
“Let us join hands for development and work together to build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said before officially commissioning the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road for public use.
