The University of Abuja has made history with the election of Eyamu Oghenenyerovwo Peculiar, a 300-level student of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, as the institution’s first female Students’ Union Government (SUG) President.

Peculiar emerged victorious in the Students’ Union Government election for the 2025/2026 academic session, which was conducted through a digital voting platform.

Insightlinks gathered that Peculiar contested the election on the campaign slogan, “Everything Peculiar, Nothing Is Ordinary,” a message that resonated with students during the electoral process.

Reacting to her victory, the president-elect expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the students for their confidence in her leadership.

“I feel grateful to God and sincerely thankful to every student who believed in my vision. Being the first elected female SUG President is not just a personal achievement; it is a victory for every young woman who has dared to dream and for every student who believes leadership should be based on competence, character and service, not gender,” she said.

Peculiar’s emergence marks a significant milestone in the history of the University of Abuja’s Students’ Union Government, as she becomes the first woman to be elected to lead the student body.

Her election has been widely welcomed by students and supporters, who expressed optimism that her administration will promote inclusive leadership and advance the welfare of students across the institution.
