Spain delivered a commanding performance to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Austria on Wednesday night.
Forward Mikel Oyarzabal was the star of the match, scoring a brace to inspire La Roja to another convincing win in the knockout stage.
Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute, giving Spain a deserved first-half lead after dominating possession and creating several chances.
The Spaniards doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through Pedro Porro, whose well-taken finish put the game beyond Austria’s reach.
Oyarzabal completed his brace just a minute before the end of normal time, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute to seal an emphatic 3-0 triumph.
Spain controlled the contest from start to finish, while Austria struggled to cope with the European side’s attacking intensity and failed to mount a meaningful comeback.
