The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested four suspected burglars during an intelligence-led operation at a criminal hideout in Ado Ekiti, recovering a large quantity of items believed to be stolen.
The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the suspects were apprehended during a raid on a hideout in the Omisanjana area of the state capital.
According to him, the suspects are Abdurazak Suleiman, 39; John Okori, 27; Francis Okori, 32; and Kehinde Alabi, 30, all residents of Omisanjana.
Abutu said a search of the apartment led to the recovery of several items suspected to be proceeds of burglary and theft, including assorted perfumes, bathing soaps, alcoholic beverages, food items, body care products, clothing materials, garments, a school bag, a 3kg gas cylinder and a sledgehammer believed to have been used for breaking into shops.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lived together in the same apartment and were allegedly linked to the recent burglary of a shop at Ekute Quarters, near the Water Works construction site in Ado Ekiti, where some of them reportedly worked as labourers.
The police spokesperson added that efforts were underway to identify the owner of the burgled shop and other possible victims to facilitate the recovery of their property.
He noted that a full-scale investigation had commenced to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in burglary and other criminal activities.
Abutu said the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo Falade, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, assuring them that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
