The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, describing the arrests as a major breakthrough in the investigation into the alleged homicide.

According to the statement, detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, launched an investigation after the case was reported on June 25, 2026, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

Afusat said investigations revealed that the incident began on June 17 when one of the suspects, Abdullahi Isiaka, allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary measures she had taken against his 11-year-old son during school hours.

She added, “Later that same day, while the deceased was on her way to the mosque for prayers, she was again assaulted by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.”

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the victim was allegedly attacked again the following day.

“Further investigation revealed that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, where she assaulted the deceased at her workplace,” Afusat said.

According to her, the victim was first treated at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic, Okpo, for further medical attention.

“She, however, succumbed to the injuries on June 25, 2026,” the statement added.

Afusat said police investigations established a prima facie case against the suspects.

“The investigation established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka. Consequently, the investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” she stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, commended detectives of the Homicide Section of the SCID for their professionalism and dedication in handling the case.

He also reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

The commissioner further appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance crime prevention and effective law enforcement across the state.
