The Osun State chapter of the Jama’atu Tijaniyah Movement of Nigeria has expressed its readiness to contribute to the development of Osun State and the country through its spiritual, educational and social resources if given the opportunity to participate in governance.
The group made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Khamis Olatunde Badmus, in Osogbo.
The delegation, comprising leaders and members of the Islamic movement from the six zones, the 30 local government areas of Osun State and the Area Office, said the visit was organised to congratulate Badmus on his 80th birthday anniversary and the inauguration of the multi-million-naira mosque he built to commemorate the milestone.
Speaking during the visit, the Grand Khalifa of the movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Ismaeel Kunfayakun, described the Jama’atu Tijaniyah Movement as one of the largest Islamic organisations in the country, noting that its membership is estimated at about 62 million across Nigeria.
He said the movement’s large membership, particularly in Osun State, places it in a strategic position to contribute meaningfully to governance and societal development, stressing that it deserves greater recognition from government at all levels.
Kunfayakun also emphasised the importance of the office of the Asiwaju Musulumi, saying all Muslims of Yoruba extraction should unite in support of the institution for the growth of Islam and the advancement of the Muslim community.
The Deputy Grand Khalifa of the movement also pledged the group’s readiness to work closely with the office of the Asiwaju Musulumi ahead of future political engagements in the state.
“We are of the view that if we collaborate with your office, we are hopeful that the state government will give us more recognition and factor us into governance,” he said.
Responding, Asiwaju Badmus thanked the delegation for the visit and for joining him in celebrating his 80th birthday.
He assured the Tijaniyah Movement of his support and encouraged its members to remain actively involved in the democratic process by participating in elections and supporting the emergence of credible leaders at all levels of government.
