The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three people in connection with motorcycle theft and recovered seven suspected stolen bikes in different parts of the state.
The suspects include Mustapha Lekan, 38, from Osun State, who was arrested for allegedly stealing the motorcycles. Two others, Blessing Adebiyi and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, were also picked up for allegedly receiving stolen motorcycles.
The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
According to him, the arrests were made on Saturday in Ado Ekiti, Ido Ekiti and Ilogbo Ekiti.
Giving details, Abutu said: “On Saturday, 18th July, 2026, at about 2 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit acted on credible intelligence that a suspect had stolen a red Bajaj motorcycle around Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School in Ado-Ekiti and was escaping toward Ilawe Road.
“The VCRU team, who were on stop-and-search duty along Ilawe Road, quickly moved in. They sighted the motorcycle, chased the suspect and arrested him.
“The suspect was identified as Mustapha Lekan, 38, from Osun State. The stolen motorcycle was recovered from him.
“During interrogation, he confessed to stealing two motorcycles in Ado-Ekiti. This led operatives to Ilogbo Ekiti and Ido Ekiti, where two suspected receivers, Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, were arrested.
“In all, six more motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were recovered. Investigations are ongoing to trace the owners and arrest other members of the syndicate.”
Abutu said the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, praised the operatives for their swift action and professionalism.
“The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing to rid Ekiti of criminal elements. He also urged members of the public to keep providing timely and useful information to help in the fight against crime,” Abutu said.
He further stated that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, and warned criminals to stay away from illegal activities or face the law.
