Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos in a deal worth up to £50 million as the Red Devils continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The transfer package includes a guaranteed £48 million fee, with a further £2 million in performance-related add-ons. Chelsea will also retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Santos is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days before completing his move to Old Trafford.
The Brazil international joined Chelsea from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in January 2023 and gained valuable experience during loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg.
Last season, the 22-year-old established himself as a regular in Chelsea’s squad, making 43 appearances across all competitions. He scored three goals and provided four assists during an impressive campaign.
Manchester United are also closing in on another Brazilian midfielder, Ederson, from Serie A side Atalanta as manager Michael Carrick looks to rebuild his midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Reinforcing the midfield has become a priority for United following Casemiro’s departure at the end of his contract and the long-term injury suffered by Manuel Ugarte while representing Uruguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Beyond midfield, United remain keen on signing West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, who is regarded as the club’s top target for the left flank.
Although initial talks have been held with West Ham, United face competition from several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, for the Netherlands international.
The club hopes to finance a move for Summerville through the sale of Marcus Rashford, who is expected to return to Old Trafford after his post-World Cup break. However, Rashford could still remain at the club as a squad option under Carrick if no transfer materialises.
United’s reported interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall has meanwhile been put on hold as the club focuses on completing its midfield reinforcements before pursuing additions in other positions.
