Popular Nigerian content creator and actress, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, widely known as Kiekie, has revealed that she deliberately avoids collaborating with certain colleagues in the entertainment industry whose style of content does not align with her personal brand.
Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Kiekie said she is selective about the creative partnerships she enters into, stressing that she cannot feature in skits she considers overly vulgar or sexually suggestive.
According to her, maintaining a brand that reflects her values is more important than chasing collaborations that could compromise her public image.
“I would never collaborate with any skit maker that is too vulgar,” she said. “I just won’t be able to do it.”
When the interviewer asked her to mention a specific content creator, Kiekie declined to name anyone, explaining that her decision is not directed at any individual but is based solely on compatibility.
“I don’t have a particular name,” she said. “But I have seen quite a number of them. If your content is too much about breasts, bum bum and things like that, it’s not because I have a problem with what you do. It’s simply about brand alignment.”
The media personality emphasized that choosing not to work with some creators should not be interpreted as disrespect for their craft or a dismissal of their efforts.
“My inability to collaborate with you doesn’t mean I look down on your work or don’t appreciate your hard work,” she explained. “I respect what you do, but our brands just don’t align. It could also affect how brands that work with me perceive my own content.”
Kiekie’s remarks highlight the growing importance of personal branding in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where many creators carefully curate the type of content and collaborations they undertake to preserve their reputation and maintain long-term relationships with commercial partners.
