Nigerian actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has announced December 4 as the release date for Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2023 Yoruba epic that gained international attention following its release on Netflix.
Adebayo unveiled the thriller for the upcoming production in a teaser shared on his social media pages, reigniting anticipation among fans who have been waiting to see how the story of the original film will continue.
“Even in his absence, his name remained a curse whispered behind closed doors. Some men are made by war. Others are the reason kingdoms learn to fear it,” the filmmaker wrote in the teaser caption.
The announcement comes after the success of Jagun Jagun: The Warrior, a film that established itself as one of the notable Yoruba-language epic productions on Netflix, combining traditional warfare, royal intrigues, betrayal and the struggle for power.
Released in 2023, the first instalment follows a young man determined to become a formidable warrior. His ambition leads him into the army of a feared warlord, where he encounters brutality, dangerous power struggles and secrets that ultimately set him on a path of revenge.
The film featured an ensemble cast, including Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Ademoye, Faithia Balogun, Bukunmi Oluwasina, Ibrahim Yekini and Muyiwa Ademola. It was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami and produced by Adebayo and Euphoria360 Media.
Beyond its action-packed storyline, Jagun Jagun attracted attention for its portrayal of Yoruba history, cultural traditions, costumes and the political dynamics of kingdoms built around military strength and loyalty.
Its impact was further recognised at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, where it won Best Indigenous Language Movie (West Africa) and Best Costume Design.
With Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, Adebayo is returning to a fictional world shaped by warfare, ambition and the consequences of power. The sequel’s title and teaser suggest that the legacy of the first film’s characters and the conflicts they left behind will remain central to the unfolding story.
The filmmaker had previously hinted at the new production following the launch of his major film investment, Euphoria 360. He also linked the strong reactions generated by the original Jagun Jagun to the inspiration behind the sequel’s title, War of Warriors.
Although details of the sequel’s storyline remain under wraps, its December 4 release date has raised expectations among fans eager to discover whether the new instalment will expand the original film’s conflicts or introduce new threats to its fictional kingdoms.
The sequel also represents another opportunity for Adebayo to build on the growing international visibility of Yoruba-language cinema, particularly historical productions that combine indigenous storytelling with elaborate costumes, large-scale battle scenes and traditional cultural settings.
As the release date approaches, audiences will be watching to see how Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors builds on the legacy of its predecessor and whether it can deliver another compelling chapter in the epic saga.
