Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa will go head-to-head in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, with the two European champions meeting at the Stadion Salzburg in Austria.
PSG booked their place in the annual showpiece after retaining the UEFA Champions League, while Aston Villa earned their spot by winning the UEFA Europa League.
For PSG, the match offers an opportunity to retain the trophy they won last year. The French giants came from two goals down against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025 Super Cup before eventually winning 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
That victory made PSG the first French club to win the UEFA Super Cup. They had previously appeared in the competition in 1996, when they suffered a heavy 9-2 aggregate defeat to Juventus.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, return to the Super Cup for the first time since their memorable triumph in 1982. The English club defeated Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate, recovering from a 1-0 first-leg defeat to win 3-0 after extra time in the return leg.
The encounter also carries an interesting recent history. PSG and Villa met in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2025, with the Parisians progressing 5-4 on aggregate after a closely contested tie.
While PSG enter the contest as defending champions, their preparations have been limited, with several players only recently returning from extended breaks following the World Cup.
Villa, under Unai Emery, have had a busier pre-season and will hope their greater match preparation gives them an advantage against the Champions League holders.
The Super Cup therefore presents another opportunity for both sides to add to their European honours, with PSG seeking back-to-back titles and Villa aiming to repeat their historic success of 1982.
