Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has praised Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, describing the teenage forward as a “very good player” while ruling out any attempt to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Mourinho’s comments came amid reports linking Real Madrid with a sensational move for the Barcelona star, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young players in world football.
Speaking in an interview with El Chiringuito, Mourinho admitted his admiration for Yamal but insisted that Madrid already have enough quality in their squad.
“Will I sign Lamine Yamal? He’s a great player, but no. We already have a top squad,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese manager’s remarks underline his respect for Yamal, despite the youngster being one of the key figures at Madrid’s biggest rivals.
Yamal played a major role in Barcelona’s La Liga triumph last season, scoring 16 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.
The teenager has also continued to rise on the international stage, helping Spain win the 2026 World Cup.
His performances have placed him among the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, further highlighting why Mourinho holds the young Barcelona star in such high regard.
For now, however, Mourinho appears content to admire Yamal from afar, with the Real Madrid boss making it clear that his appreciation for the youngster does not mean he wants to take him away from Barcelona.
