The Osun State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole has disclosed that the State Government budgeted N180 per meal for each student with special needs last year.
Eluwole made the statement during an interview on Western Western Spring Television in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The Commissioner was responding to questions surrounding the inability of the Schools for Special Needs to resume almost five weeks after the commencement of 2026-2027 academic session.
InsightMedia has in an exclusive report revealed that students have been languishing at home as schools remain under locks over failure by the government to provide feeding allowance.
When asked how much was budgeted per child last year, the commissioner said
“Last year, it’s N180 budgeted, people saying N120, N150 were only speculating”
He confirmed that the amount was for each meal and that the students were expected to have three meals daily.
Based on the figures provided, the daily feeding allocation amounted to N540 per student.
The commissioner, however, explained that food items were purchased in bulk rather than being bought separately for each meal.
“A product is bought in quantity, it’s not that we are given money each time to go and buy something to cook,” he said.
He added that items such as beans were purchased in large quantities, arguing that the quantity of food supplied would be reflected in the video
Eluwole also confirmed that foodstuffs were procured on credit last term as the government is owning debt to the tune N47m.
