The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of Seun Ajayi in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state, recovering an axe, two double-edged knives and three Android phones during the operation.
The arrests come amid concerns over violent attacks and alleged threats in parts of Ikire, with the police linking one of the suspects to an earlier deadly incident involving officers of the Ikire Police Division.
The suspects were identified as Nurudeen Ademakinwa, 30, popularly known as Igboya Aye-nuru; Agboluaje Usman, 23; and Awoniran Toheeb, 20.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the murder occurred at about 6 p.m. on October 3, 2026, at a barbing salon in the Oja-Ale area of Ikire.
According to the police, a friend of the deceased reported that he and Ajayi were having their haircuts when a group of hoodlums allegedly stormed the salon and attacked them with dangerous weapons.
The statement said Ajayi was killed during the attack, while his friend and others reportedly escaped before the incident was reported at a police station.
Ojelabi said the three suspects were subsequently arrested during an intelligence-led operation, which also led to the recovery of the suspected weapons and mobile phones.
The police further alleged that Ademakinwa had sent threatening voice messages to some residents of Wasimi, warning them to leave the community or face the consequences.
The command also linked him to an August 24, 2026, incident in which two passers-by were allegedly killed during an attack on police officers from the Ikire Division.
The latest arrests form part of the police response to reported violent incidents in the area, although the allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
The command said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction upon their conclusion.
