President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, who died in the early hours of Tuesday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late Baba-Ahmed as a respected religious leader and administrator whose life was devoted to the service of Islam, nation-building, and the promotion of peace and justice.
Tinubu praised Baba-Ahmed’s leadership of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, noting that he guided the organisation with wisdom, integrity, and a strong commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
The President also recalled his longstanding relationship with the deceased, particularly his support and counsel during the build-up to the 2011 elections and throughout Tinubu’s successful 2023 presidential campaign.
According to the statement, Baba-Ahmed played a significant role in shaping national discourse, promoting moral values, social justice, and greater understanding among Nigerians.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the leadership and members of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, the Baba-Ahmed family, the Kaduna State Government, and the wider Muslim community.
He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased, asking that his shortcomings be forgiven, his soul be granted Aljannatul Firdaus, and his family and loved ones be given the strength to bear the loss.
