The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that Nigeria’s newly launched e-border surveillance system is proving highly effective in strengthening border security.

Launched on December 14, 2024, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex, this advanced initiative is combating irregular migration and enhancing national security.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tunji-Ojo revealed that the system has already shown significant success, especially in identifying and apprehending persons of interest.

He highlighted the integration of INTERPOL data and national security databases as key factors in improving threat detection at the nation’s borders.

Since its roll-out, the system has flagged and detained individuals linked to criminal activities, demonstrating its capacity to address Nigeria’s longstanding border security challenges.

The e-border solution covers over 80 crossing points nationwide, employing state-of-the-art automation for real-time surveillance across the country’s 4,447 kilometers of land, air, and sea borders.
