Bowen University has announced the formation of a three-member committee to collaborate with the police in uncovering the identity of the individuals responsible for the recent murder of a student at the institution in Osun State

The Osun State Police Command previously revealed that its detectives had launched an investigation into the killing of a 200-level student, known only as Paul, who was fatally stabbed.

The police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the incident was reported to the Iwo Divisional Headquarters on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, around 10:55 p.m.

Opalola also clarified that the victim, a Computer Science student, was attacked by one or more unidentified assailants.

According to Opalola, “On 22/01/2025, at about 10:55 pm, Akindoyo Joseph, a CSO at Bowen University, reported to the Iwo Police Divisional Headquarters that Paul Thinker, a 200-level Computer Science student, had been stabbed by unknown persons.”

In a statement shared with The PUNCH, Bowen University’s Public Relations Officer, Havillah Aliyu, praised the police for their swift action in responding to the management’s call for assistance.

He added that the family of the deceased met with the university’s management on campus last Thursday, noting that while normalcy is gradually returning to the campus, there remains an atmosphere of cautious anticipation for justice.

Aliyu expressed, “Management is satisfied with the police’s prompt response and professionalism, and we are optimistic that the culprits will soon be apprehended. Although the police are leading the investigation, a three-member committee was quickly established during an emergency Senate meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The committee, fully supported by the university’s management, is tasked with gathering information and assisting the police with the investigation.”

The university has also taken steps to bolster campus security by increasing patrols and collaborating with the police and other relevant agencies.
