The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, for his recent attack on officials of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority.
The incident occurred at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, near Sango Ota.
In a statement issued on Friday, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, criticized Portable as an “unrepentant rascal” and a “serial dissident,” accusing him of routinely assaulting government officials without provocation.
Akinmade described the attack on the government officials, who were carrying out their duties in the area, as “unacceptable and barbaric.” He emphasized that such behavior would be addressed according to the law.
Akinmade also expressed concern about the increasing disturbances caused by Portable, noting that his actions have been causing panic and chaos in the area, damaging the community’s peace.
He reiterated the Abiodun administration’s commitment to upholding decency and the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of Omoluabi values in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun also condemned Portable’s actions and pledged that anyone found breaking the law, regardless of their social status, would face the consequences.
In related developments, the Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arraigned nine of Portable’s associates for allegedly assaulting officials from the Ota Zonal Planning office.
The individuals, aged between 19 and 28, face charges including felony, assault, and causing a breach of peace.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges during their appearance at a Magistrate’s Court in Isabo, Abeokuta.
