After 101 days of power outage at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and the Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Engr. Francis Agoh, have reached an agreement with the hospital’s management to restore electricity to the clinical section within the next 24 to 48 hours.

This agreement followed the minister’s intervention to mediate between IBEDC and the hospital administration.

During the minister’s meeting with UCH’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, some students from the University of Ibadan, led by their representative Mr. Aweda Bolaji, staged a peaceful protest to voice their frustrations over the prolonged blackout, which had left them in complete darkness for over three months.

The Minister, along with the CMD and the MD of IBEDC, addressed the protesting students. Chief Adelabu described the outage—stemming from a vendor-customer dispute—as an embarrassment to both the hospital and the Federal Government.

Further details will follow.
