The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has announced the postponement of the National Council for Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy meeting, initially scheduled to take place in Osun State from February 25 to 27, 2025.

This decision comes in response to escalating political tensions in the state due to the ongoing local government crisis.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed the postponement in an internal memo titled “Urgent Action Against Hosting of National Council for Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy from 24-27 February 2025, in Osun State.”

The memo was directed to State Commissioners, Directors of MDAs, Heads of Departments/Units, and key stakeholders.

The memo referenced the current tense political situation in Osun, noting that it stemmed from unrest surrounding the local government elections.

It also informed the concerned parties about the rescheduling and assured that a new date for the meeting would be announced soon.

“I am directed by the Hon. Minister to inform you that the upcoming Council Meeting scheduled to hold in Osun State from February 25–27, 2025, has been postponed to a later date, which will be duly communicated,” the memo stated. The ministry expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.

Additionally, the ministry requested that the memo be widely circulated to all relevant stakeholders and thanked recipients for their cooperation and understanding.

According to PUNCH Online, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in all 30 local government areas of Osun State on Saturday, winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats.

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, confirmed this at a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital. He also announced that the PDP had won all 332 councillorship seats.

On Sunday, Governor Ademola Adeleke inaugurated the newly elected LG chairmen and councillors, urging them to prioritize good governance and cautioning against any attempts to forcibly occupy council secretariats.
