Nigeria’s World Cup qualification aspirations were dealt a significant blow on Tuesday as the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Coming off a 2-0 win over Rwanda, Nigeria aimed to continue building momentum in their qualification journey. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous early chances, Coach Eric Chelle’s side struggled to breach a determined Zimbabwean defense.

After persistent pressure, the breakthrough came in the 74th minute. Victor Osimhen, ever the clinical striker, powered home a low cross from Moses Simon, giving Nigeria the lead.

However, the Super Eagles were unable to maintain their advantage. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Zimbabwe to strike, with the visitors hitting the crossbar before equalizing in the 90th minute.

Tawanda Chirewa took advantage of some weak defending, firing past goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali at his near post, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

Nigeria had a final opportunity to claim victory, but Wilfred Ndidi squandered a clear-cut chance, leaving the Super Eagles frustrated as they dropped valuable points once again.
