Veteran Bollywood star Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday at the age of 87 due to heart-related complications in Mumbai.

Kumar, fondly known as “Bharat Kumar,” was a renowned actor and director who starred in numerous Hindi-language films with patriotic themes, earning him the nickname.

 

Throughout his illustrious career, Kumar received several national awards, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honor for cinema.

He made his debut in Indian cinema in the late 1950s and went on to star in iconic films like “Upkar” (1967), “Purab Aur Pachhim” (1970), and “Kranti” (1981).

 

Kumar’s passing sparked an outpouring of tributes from across India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the condolences, describing him as an “icon” of Indian cinema.

Modi praised Kumar’s work, saying it “ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations”.
