The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, has urged host communities to refrain from granting police officers stationed in their areas loans that may be difficult for them to repay.

Speaking through the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, during the commissioning of a newly constructed divisional police headquarters in Imane, Olamaboro Local Government Area, the IG issued a cautionary note to community members regarding financial interactions with officers.

“While building relationships with officers posted here, I advise you not to extend heavy loans or financial aid that may place undue burden on them. Such loans can lead to complications,” Dantawaye warned.

He also appealed to residents to maintain and safeguard the new police facility, the first of its kind in the area, which was built and donated by a native of the community, Dr. Peter Ali.

Also in attendance was the Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, represented by Deputy Governor Joel Oyibo, who commended the donor’s contribution to community security. He encouraged residents to support the officers who will be deployed by fostering collaboration, particularly in intelligence gathering.

“I urge you to work closely with the officers in sharing information that can enhance local security and ensure the protection of lives and property,” Oyibo said.

Dr. Peter Ali, the donor of the facility, said his motivation stemmed from a commitment to strengthening security infrastructure in his hometown.

“With the commissioning of this divisional headquarters, we are not merely opening a building—we are creating a platform for faster response, improved safety, and deeper community-police cooperation,” Ali stated.

He urged the community to take ownership of the facility and ensure it becomes a lasting symbol of their shared commitment to peace and development.
