Prominent human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has reaffirmed his unwavering support for Peter Obi, stating that he would vote for the former Anambra State governor again if he contests the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Farotimi emphasized that while discussions around the 2027 elections are premature and potentially distracting, his preference remains clear.

“If an election where votes genuinely count were to be held today, I would vote for Peter Gregory Obi — unless a new candidate emerges who I believe is better,” he said. “If it’s the same lineup as in 2023, then it’s definitely Peter Obi I’m voting for.”

Farotimi, who served as a spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 elections, expressed hope that Obi would adopt bolder policy positions but insisted that in terms of competence and integrity, no other candidate currently matches him.

“It would take something drastic to change my mind. Perhaps if he aligns with individuals whose values I cannot accept — that could be a deal breaker. But beyond that, there’s no one else I would support.”

He also criticized the current political climate, suggesting that focusing on future elections distracts from addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“I believe talking about elections now does a disservice to us, given the state of the country. We should be more concerned about rebuilding our democracy before we think of voting again,” he added.

Farotimi’s ongoing support for Obi, he said, stems from a genuine desire to see meaningful change and a better future for Nigeria.
