Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi has been ruled out of the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States after being unable to leave Iran due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
Taremi was expected to fly to Los Angeles on Saturday to link up with his Inter teammates but was left grounded after flights from Iranian airports were suspended following recent military confrontations between the two nations.
The 32-year-old forward had just featured for Iran, scoring in their World Cup qualifying victory over North Korea in Tehran last Tuesday.
Due to the ongoing travel restrictions, Taremi will miss Inter’s opening Club World Cup clash against Monterrey on Wednesday. According to reports from Italian media, it is also unlikely he will take part in the remainder of the tournament, even if travel resumes.
Taremi have been in sensational form since joining Inter Milan from FC Porto last year
