The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that a viral video showing a schoolgirl smoking what appears to be cannabis did not originate from Nigeria, contrary to widespread claims.

Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that preliminary findings suggest the video was filmed in Zimbabwe, not Nigeria.

“Our analysis shows the individuals in the video speak both English and Shona a language primarily spoken in Zimbabwe,” he said. “No Nigerian languages or accents were identified.”

Further investigation traced the video to a Zimbabwean Instagram account, @rusape_celebs_tv, associated with the town of Rusape.

The video, widely shared on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, raised concerns among Nigerian parents and educators about youth behavior and drug use.

Police urged the public to stop sharing unverified content, warning that misinformation can have damaging consequences.

“We strongly advise against spreading unverified videos, especially those involving sensitive subjects,” Adejobi added.
