Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom in Lagos State, has removed six of his chiefs from their positions for attending a Labour Party campaign event without his approval.
The monarch said the chiefs not only failed to seek his consent but also breached palace protocols by allegedly representing him at the political gathering held in the Apapa area.
Those affected include Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).
The decision was made during a palace meeting convened on Monday, where Oba Oyegbemi expressed his displeasure over their conduct.
A statement seen on Tuesday revealed that the monarch summoned the chiefs and the Ojora Council to clarify their involvement.
According to the statement, the monarch stressed that no chief is permitted to act on his behalf without formal authorization, as they are meant to uphold and represent the traditions of the Ojora Kingdom.
By dethroning the chiefs, Oba Oyegbemi reinforced his stance on discipline and order within the traditional hierarchy.
During the meeting, he also commended the current administration’s development efforts within Ojora land and pledged continued support for its initiatives.
He concluded by emphasizing the need for clear communication and accountability between traditional leaders and their representatives, particularly regarding involvement in political activities.
