Unidentified intruders broke into the official residence of the Ghanaian Ambassador to Nigeria in the upscale Maitama district of Abuja at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 11.

The burglars stole several valuables, including two plasma TVs, gas cylinders, and bags of rice.

Sources at the residence revealed that the intruders gained access by cutting through the protective wire fencing at the back of the compound and forcing open the back door.

A member of the domestic staff recalled that a power outage during the early hours may have facilitated the break-in.

“At about 2 a.m., the electricity went out, so I switched on the generator. When power was restored, I turned it off and later noticed the back door and a window had been forced open, and the fence wires were cut,” the staff member explained.

The police were promptly notified, and when our reporter visited the scene on Saturday, the breached area had been cordoned off with crime scene tape.

Confirming the incident, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa described it as a burglary under investigation. Federal Capital Territory Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh added that the Police Commissioner has visited the site and that investigations are ongoing.
