Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has firmly denied rumours that she is stepping away from international football, calling the reports “baseless” and “unfounded.”

Speaking to journalists in Morocco after Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 win over the host nation in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final, the six-time African Player of the Year made it clear she’s not going anywhere.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Oshoala said. “I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Reflecting on the final, Oshoala offered a message of resilience and determination, particularly for younger players and fans.

“From today’s game, I’ll just say: don’t give up. Keep fighting until the end. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel if you believe.

I always tell my girls, ‘Stay ready. Anytime you’re called on, go out there and show yourself.’”

Oshoala made her senior debut in 2013 under interim coach Edwin Okon during a friendly against Japan. Her international breakthrough came at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, where she finished as top scorer and best player with seven goals.
