A fuel tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned on Tuesday in the Eleyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, causing a significant spill.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Ibadan on Wednesday.
He said the tanker, bearing the registration number LAGOS T21044 LA, veered off the road and fell into a ditch directly opposite the AIB Filling Station in Eleyele.
According to Akinwande, emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage the situation. “Once the report came in, a team of firemen led by Chief Fire Superintendent Olayiwola was immediately dispatched.
On arrival, it was confirmed that a fuel-laden trailer had swerved into a roadside ditch, spilling its contents heavily,” he said.
He added that the tanker has since been cleared from the site, normal traffic flow has resumed, and daily activities in the area have returned to normal.
