The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has successfully secured the conviction of Wahab Olabanji for fraudulently collecting money from unsuspecting job applicants with false promises of employment.
Wahab Olabanji, who was a Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) at grade level 14 with the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, was found guilty of accepting payments from applicants during recent recruitment exercises at the board and the State Teaching Service Commission.
Justice Eni Esan (retd.), Chairman of OYACA, announced the conviction in a statement released on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital.
Olabanji was charged on 30 counts including official corruption, obtaining money under false pretenses, and conversion. After a rigorous 17-month trial, the court delivered its verdict on Friday, August 1, 2025.
Olabanji was sentenced to six months imprisonment with the option to pay a fine of N50,000 on each count. Additionally, the court ordered him to repay all sums fraudulently obtained within three months to compensate the victims for their losses.
Justice Esan reaffirmed OYACA’s commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for corruption within the public service sector of Oyo State.
