It was a gathering of intellectuals on Saturday as the Osun state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria held a colloquium to celebrate this year’s international youth day.

The discussion, which was anchored on a theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnership” was held in Osogbo.

Speaking on the motive behind the event, the Chairman of the Council, Segun Olakolupo Akinbode said the young people in Osun are set to advance the discussion with pragmatic approach through technology and digital innovation.

Akinbode called on the stakeholders to support the vision of the Council which centers on building a befitting secretariat that will house different sections for entrepreneurship, ICT trainings, among others.

In his lead address, the guest lecturer, Engr. Ademola Agoro admonished stakeholders, most especially government agencies, not to see young people as competitors but as partners.

Agoro said the young population in Nigeria are to be seen as partners in development and nation building.

“Youth are not beneficiaries of development, they are partners in development. Agencies of government are called to always treat them as such and not otherwise.”

Agoro encouraged youth to always bring value to table, declaring that the value brought is proportional to the pay. “If you want to increase your pay, increase your value.
“he said.

While speaking on the panel session, the Consultant to the Osun State Government on Climate change, Professor Chinwe Obuaku applauded the vibrancy and creativity of Osun youth, stating that it has helped her office in driving its mandates.

Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye, Chief Executive Officer of ArtDeco, Paul Ogedengbe were among panelists who emphasized how technology has helped their organizations helped their jobs.

Also speaking, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, CON and the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa Oba (Dr) Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II, vowed to continue to support the youth towards realization of their set agenda.

The two monarchs were honoured with life patron while some other personalities, including Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olagunju, were awarded by the association for their supoort for the youth.
