As preparations intensify ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention, some of the party’s most prominent stakeholders have issued a six-point demand to the National Working Committee (NWC), warning that failure to act could undermine the exercise.
The resolution was reached at a late-night meeting on Monday in Abuja, hosted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In attendance were former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; ex-Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
In a communiqué released early Tuesday and signed by Ortom, the group stressed that the PDP must return to the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusivity if it is to remain a credible alternative to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement cautioned that any attempt to ignore their demands would render the planned convention invalid, as it would amount to disenfranchising legitimate members of the party.
The Six Demands Includes
1. Fresh congresses must be held in Ebonyi and Anambra states, in line with existing court judgments.
2. An urgent South East Zonal Congress should be conducted.
3. The outcome of the South South Congress in Calabar, already upheld by the courts, must be respected.
4. The PDP should immediately conduct the Ekiti LGA congresses, in compliance with judicial rulings.
5. There should be no micro-zoning of offices beyond the general zoning arrangement already approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
6. The national chairmanship position must remain in the North Central, consistent with the zoning decision of the 2021 convention.
The stakeholders emphasized that the PDP stands at a defining crossroads and must avoid actions that could alienate members or disregard judicial pronouncements.
“Unity cannot be built on disenfranchisement, exclusion, or the neglect of valid court rulings. Only transparency and fairness can guarantee a credible convention,” the communiqué declared.
They further warned that ignoring these resolutions could plunge the party into deeper crisis, urging leaders to prioritize collective responsibility over narrow interests.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, this intervention by Wike, Ortom, Fayose, Ikpeazu, and Ugwuanyi highlights mounting pressure on the PDP leadership to resolve its internal disputes and present a united front.
