The Olojudo of Ido-Osun in Egbedore local government, Oba Olayinka Ishola Jokotola, has fulfilled his promise to the people of the community as 50 youths from different parts of Ido-Osun have commenced intensive training in Adire making.

The skills acquisition in traditional Yoruba art of tie and dye, aimed at promoting self-reliance and preserving cultural heritage. The training is holding at the Palace Square.

Addressing the beneficiaries who gathered at the palace for the commencement of the training on Monday, the Monarch explained that it was a way of empowering youths and also preserve the beauty of Adire, which has rich historical connections with the community.

“This empowerment is a fulfillment of the promise I made, to empower the youths with necessary skills needed to have a means of livelihood and also create a means of employment. My expectation is for the youths to become self-reliant, rather than waiting for the government for employment.

“The cultural heritage (Adire) will not perish but will remain forever. Through learning the craft of adire and sculpture, the heritage and culture of the Yoruba people will be preserved. That is why we are passing it on to the younger generation so they can understand and uphold it”, the Monarch added.

Oba Jokotola also advised the beneficiaries to be diligent in thier learning and be attentive, so at the end of the training they can have a means of livelihood and also empower others.

“I will advise the participants to take the training seriously and maximize the opportunity given to them. This won’t be the last training, there will be other empowerment, even after the training, i will continue to support them in establishing themselves”, he advised.

The coordinator of the project, Lasisi Opeyemi, explained that the 50 youths were chosen from compounds and equipments were purchased by the Monarch to allow the students have enough materials for learning.

“We selected the beneficiaries based on the information we shared on the platform, and participants were selected from each family compound. The Kabiyesi provided all the necessary materials for the training, including tables and chairs, stoves, clothes and other necessary materials needed for the training. This trainees paid no dime and will not pay anything for this training. Everything has been taken care of by our Baba (Olojudo).

Speaking with InsightMedia, some of the beneficiaries also expressed optimism about the training, while reiterating their focus and determination to learning the artistry to be able to be independent and also create employment for others.

The training of 50 youths which includes men and women is a fulfillment of the Monarch’s promise to the resident to empower the youths, the youths were given materials, stoves, candles, book , and other necessary requirements to learn adequately.
