President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economic hardship is over, assuring citizens that the nation has entered a new phase of recovery and growth.
Speaking on Friday at the coronation ceremony of Oba Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State, Tinubu said the economy has “turned a corner,” and that “a bright light is at the end of the tunnel.”
“Your suffering has been as painful to us as a painful surgery,” Tinubu stated. “But the economy has now returned to a moment of growth and prosperity. Thank you for your perseverance and endurance.”
The President’s remarks combined celebration and reflection as he congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, describing him as a renowned businessman and respected leader.
“Kabiyesi, happy birthday once again. Today, I am honoured to bring you cheering news,” Tinubu added. “Let me salute His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, on the occasion of your coronation.”
The event was a historic moment, marking the installation of the first former governor of Oyo State to become Olubadan. Oba Ladoja’s rise to the throne follows a 32-year journey through Ibadan’s traditional chieftaincy system.
The coronation drew dignitaries and thousands of residents, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, FIRS Chairman Dr Zaccheus Adedeji, and Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu.
President Tinubu also recalled his 2023 campaign visit to Ibadan, referencing his iconic slogan.
“I once came to Oke Mapo to say ‘Emi lo’kan’—it’s my turn—and now we are here. Thank you for your support.”
Oba Ladoja’s ascension is seen as symbolic, bridging traditional leadership with modern political experience, and reaffirming Ibadan’s historical significance.
