Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku has opened up about postpartum depression and the transformation that follows childbirth, calling on men to show greater understanding and support.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, Njoku described postpartum depression as “mourning the death of the girl you once were and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming.”

She emphasized that motherhood brings deep physical, emotional, and mental changes, and partners must recognize and adjust to this evolution.

“Motherhood is as real as it gets,” Njoku wrote.

“To truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was. She is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become.”

Njoku, who is also the founder of Rok Studios and known for her candid takes on family and gender roles, added a touch of humor in her message to men, encouraging them to see the beauty in change.

“So, my dear men, look at the bright side: you get to love ‘different’ women at different stages of your marriage or relationship.

Brothers, nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!”

Her post has drawn wide attention online, with many praising her for shedding light on the emotional journey of motherhood and advocating for more empathy and support in relationships.
