The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Osun State University Branch, has announced its full participation in the two-week nationwide warning strike declared by the union’s national leadership.

Speaking in an interview with the newsmen in Osogbo on Monday, the UniOsun ASUU Chairman, Dr. Weinde Olaosebikan, confirmed that the institution’s lecturers would comply fully with the directive.

“The strike is a national directive to all ASUU branches across the country; therefore, every branch must join and comply completely,” he said.

“UniOsun ASUU will participate in the strike. There is no division among our members. We will issue our directive before noon, and the strike will commence at 12 midnight today.”

Dr. Olaosebikan added that all academic activities would be suspended throughout the two-week period as ordered by the national leadership.

The development follows the announcement by ASUU National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, during a press conference at the University of Abuja on Sunday, where he directed members in all public universities to begin a total and comprehensive warning strike.

According to Prof. Piwuna, the decision was reached after the Federal Government failed to meet the union’s demands despite the expiration of an earlier ultimatum.

“The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting,” he stated.

The nationwide action marks another round of industrial tension between ASUU and the Federal Government over unresolved issues bordering on funding, welfare, and the implementation of prior agreements.
