The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid a visit on Friday to troops injured in action who are receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

According to a statement from the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the visit formed part of Shaibu’s maiden operational tour of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

During his visit, General Shaibu commended the soldiers for their bravery and dedication, assuring them that the Nigerian Army remains committed to providing comprehensive medical care and support for their recovery. Drawing from personal experience, he shared that he had once been treated at the same facility after sustaining injuries in action, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by wounded personnel.

He expressed confidence in the hospital’s facilities and management, assuring the troops that they would receive the best possible medical attention. Shaibu also encouraged them to adhere closely to their prescribed treatment plans and reiterated his dedication to improving the welfare of soldiers and their families as part of his renewed leadership vision.

Accompanied by principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, the COAS toured the hospital to assess ongoing developments and improvements. He later visited Headquarters Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, interacting with troops and evaluating their operational readiness and morale.

The visit comes shortly after Shaibu was confirmed by the Senate in October as the new Chief of Army Staff, following the confirmation of General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff.
