The Kebbi State Government has said that the country’s worsening insecurity requires more than human effort, stressing that spiritual intervention is now necessary especially in the ongoing attempts to rescue the remaining 24 abducted schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
On November 17, 26 students were abducted when terrorists invaded the school, killing the Vice Principal, Hasan Makuku, and leaving the principal with a gunshot wound. Two students later escaped, while security agencies continue operations to rescue the rest.
Governor Nasir Idris expressed disappointment with the military for withdrawing personnel from the school despite receiving intelligence reports.
He said the abduction took place just 45 minutes after the withdrawal and demanded a full military investigation. Idris spoke while receiving the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, during a solidarity visit.
The governor’s spokesperson, Ahmed Idris, stated that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with security agencies to ensure the girls’ safe return. He also confirmed that the kidnappers had not contacted either the government or the victims’ families to demand ransom.
Kebbi’s Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sani Aliyu, has called on religious leaders and worshippers across all faiths to intensify prayers for divine intervention.
Speaking at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Aliyu urged Muslim clerics to observe continuous Qunūt during daily prayers, particularly at night, and encouraged Christian pastors to devote time during sermons to pray for peace and the safe return of the students.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, avoid any association with criminal groups, and share useful information with security operatives.
