The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has handed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, a minimum target of reaching the semi-finals at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to reports by SCORENigeria, Chelle met with the NFF Technical Committee in Abuja on Monday, where both sides discussed expectations ahead of the tournament and agreed on what the federation described as a “realistic” performance benchmark.

The Malian tactician has also been instructed to bring new energy into the squad, especially after Nigeria’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As part of preparations, Chelle is expected to unveil a 28-man provisional list for AFCON 2025 later this week.

Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda. The Super Eagles begin their campaign on December 23 with a match against Tanzania.

The team will be hoping to improve on their runners-up finish at the last AFCON hosted by Côte d’Ivoire.
