Retired General Christopher Musa, the former Chief of Defence Staff has officially resumed duties on Friday as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

Musa arrived at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, known as Ship House in Abuja, at about 11:10 a.m. He inspected the quarter guard in keeping with military tradition before exchanging greetings with service chiefs and senior ministry officials.

His assumption of office comes just days after President Bola Tinubu appointed him to replace former Defence Minister, Muhammed Badaru, who resigned. The Senate confirmed Musa’s appointment on Thursday.

The appointment has been widely welcomed, as many stakeholders believe his leadership experience and reputation for firm, innovative service—especially during his tenure as Defence Chief from 2023 to 2025—will further reinforce Nigeria’s defence operations.

The new minister is currently meeting behind closed doors with service chiefs and ministry directors.
