The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, over the record-breaking performance of her latest film, Behind the Scenes, at the box office.

The commendation was contained in a statement posted on Monday via the official X handle of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), where the agency described the achievement as a significant boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and evidence of the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories.

According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has set a historic milestone in Nollywood.

“Behind the Scenes has officially crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the ₦2 billion mark.

“The flex did not stop at home; the movie also showed modest global muscle, raking in over $111,256 in Canada and an impressive $190,249 across North America.

“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in.”

The NOA further noted that the movie’s success underscored Akindele’s record as the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years.

The agency said the performance of Behind the Scenes reflects the expanding reach of Nigeria’s film industry and reinforces the global appeal of Nollywood productions, describing the milestone as a proud moment for the nation’s cultural and creative sectors.

The Federal Government’s endorsement comes amid widespread acclaim for the 2025 release, which has dominated the domestic market while also gaining notable traction internationally.

It was earlier reported on January 12 that Akindele cemented her place in African cinema history after Behind the Scenes crossed the ₦2 billion box office threshold, becoming the first Nollywood film to achieve the feat.
