ICPC-Operatives

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee to intensify anti-corruption efforts and promote ethical standards within Nigeria’s legal profession.

The partnership was formalised on Thursday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, underscoring a renewed resolve by both bodies to promote integrity, accountability and adherence to the rule of law.

In addition, a separate MoU was signed between the NBA-ACC and the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, the training and research arm of the ICPC, to boost institutional and human capacity development through education, research and professional training.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, described the collaboration as a timely and strategic response to the growing need for joint action against corruption.

“Corruption thrives where institutions work in isolation; integrity flourishes where partnerships are forged,” Aliyu said, adding that the agreement represents a values-driven alliance focused on professionalism, accountability and service to Nigerians.

He explained that the MoU establishes a framework for aligning enforcement with prevention, capacity development, public enlightenment and ethical reorientation, noting that collaboration between the ICPC and the NBA is vital to strengthening the justice system and rebuilding public trust in governance.

Aliyu also emphasised the importance of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, describing education and skill development as critical to nurturing a new generation of legal professionals committed to integrity.

On his part, the Chairman of the NBA Anti-Corruption Committee, Professor Babafemi A. Badejo, said the agreements represent a significant step toward strengthening institutions and embedding professional ethics.

He said the MoU with the ICPC would enhance cooperation in promoting ethical conduct within the legal profession, capacity building, public sensitisation and policy advocacy, while the partnership with ACAN would prioritise structured anti-corruption training, joint research initiatives and specialised certification programmes.

Both the ICPC and the NBA-ACC expressed optimism that the collaboration would yield tangible outcomes in advancing transparency, strengthening the rule of law and improving accountability across Nigeria’s legal and governance institutions.
